Kylian Mbappe has been omitted from the Real Madrid team for the last World Cup Group match match against Red Bull Salzburg, despite returning to training after illness.
The French superstar did not appear in the list of 23 players mentioned by coach Xabi Alonso and published by the club for the game in Philadelphia, in which the two teams focus on a place in the last 16.
Mbappe had returned to the training on Wednesday after the first two Real games at the tournament in the United States due to illness.
He was taken to the hospital last Thursday for tests and treatment after the suffering of gastro -centeritis, before he was released later.
He played no role in the opening game of Real, a 1-1 draw with Saudi side Al-Hilal in Miami, or the 3-1 defeat of the Pachuca of Mexico on the weekend.
After the last game, Alonso indicated that Mbappe was recovering and said, «He does it better, he recovers.»
Real posted images of Mbappe in training on Wednesday on their website, while the team worked on the base of Florida before traveling north to Philadelphia in the afternoon.
It is there, on Lincoln Financial Field, where Madrid will include the Austrians in their last group H match and looking for a victory that will confirm their progress until the last 16 in the first place in the section.
A draw can also go through it to the next round, with Manchester City and Juventus the possible opponents in the last 16.
Mbappe has scored 43 goals in 56 performances since he came to Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain last year. His last game was for France in a 2-0 win to Germany in the UEFA Nations League on 8 June.
