I am surprised how many adventures can be experienced when they spend more than a week living outdoors. Some things begin to notice when I am camping and/or walking for prolonged periods of time:
- I instinctively enjoy knowing the current phase of the moon cycle (currently, it is a waning crescent).
- I start smelling subtle nuances of laundry detergent on a day hikers. (On the contrary, I am not immune to my own stench through Hiker, especially when I am encapsulated in my store at night).
- I physically excite myself why the sun rises every day! (I’ve been making some beacon early in the morning to escape the afternoon storms!)
- Shake visions swim through my subconscious.
In general, I feel that I have been able to find my balance completely and accommodate my legs of hikers recently. Here are some outstanding aspects (and low light) last week!
Hitchhiking To Leadville and Tennessee Pass Trail Magic
I had never done Caketop before. In fact, when I was young, I have been distrustful of the concept. Strange danger, right? Common sense, personal instincts and social dynamics take into account the decision to make hutop. In general, my first problem in Leadville was pretty good! My friend of the path, a recipe, is well versed in Hostop strategies after his PCT trip, so I felt more comfortable to engage Leadville together. After spending a few cars, a good local couple in a recipe for Subaru and I to take a walk in the city. We share a conversation about the path, local restaurants and other hiking adventures before they left us in the Leadville post office.
If you ever want to feel great for being through a trip, engastre in Leadville with your entire team and let everyone look at you with amazement/confusion. (Timely, the recipe and I passed by the Melanzana store and we do not get away empty -handed).
After lunch, a quick refueling and a Kahfe 11 Dlove Coffee’s essential root beer, we returned to the path. To our pleasant surprise, Rocket Man honored us with some magic of trails in Tennessee Pass! His clementines and Coca-Cola glass bottle were the icing on an excellent afternoon!
Lagos de puercoespin camping
After a formidable inclination, Los Lagos de Puercopine organized the most picturesque camps so far! With expansive mountain views, while mostly located within Teeline’s security, I was excited to bend down in my cozy sleep store.
Of course, to maintain the balance of such an incredible day, this was the night when the zipper for the inner mesh part of my store decided to stop working completely. A little annoying, but I could pretend a solution with my trekking posts to minimize insects that break my sleeping space.
Fast advance at 2 am: I wake up with rash flashes, thunder, rain and wind! Even if my insect zipper is broken, I am very grateful to have a completely functional rainfly in my store (it touches the wood).
A mass side trip
After convincing from the colleagues of narrators and nasal positions of the hikers, the recipe and I decided to pursue the additional 7 mile excursion in Mássiva Monta. As Colorado 14er, this peak left me breath in every way of the phrase. The lateral trip was worth it!
Reporting in the twin lakes/return to Leadville
After our massive adventure, it was appropriate to enjoy the morning and afternoon during the city and rest our legs for a moment. We use the free weekend transport bus between Twin Lakes and Leadville to support our complete replenishment. The Leadville Library was a wonderful space to spend a few hours and recharge devices (and recharge my introverted social battery)!
If you are close to the city of Twin Lakes, CO, do a favor and enjoy some peaches and grilled cream of Tenderfoot Farrilla. These peaches completely fed my first steep ascent towards Hope Pass. All participating hikers went to sleep with tired legs and happy bellies.
A 2 -step day
Our first full day on the Collegiate West route was an early start! In advance for high elevation passes and thunderstorms in the afternoon, I started walking around 3:30 in the morning (if you can call it «walk» instead of «stumble with nebula»). Honestly, Miles Before Sunrise feels like «free miles.» This is probably because I am too sleepy and it is too dark to realize that I am actually gaining mileage and elevation. Anyway, the recipe and we did it to go through a beautiful dawn!
After enjoying a warm coffee about Hope Pass, I heard a little decks in the rocks to my right. «Are there other dawn hikers?» I thought. Indeed, I was pleasantly surprised by the best new friends on the path: Mountain goats! (And your babies!)
With the mood raised by my new paths on the path, I continued through the curves when the sun came out. To dismay from my sore calves, the sun and my spirit were not the only high factors of the day, since we still had to face the rise of Lake Ann Pass. (As far away, our full day contained 5096 feet of elevation gain in more than 16.6 miles. Ouch). After carefully climbing around a large snowball, we did it successfully by Lake Ann Pass at 1 PM!
Scary clouds and more resilience of the store
After this two -step day, I was ready to establish a camp early in the afternoon. Recipe and I camped together with a great rock field in a somewhat exposed place. I was able to take a fast nap before a strong thunder woke me up. The air became cold in what seemed seconds. While slowly grabbing my rain team to move towards the bottom of the ground, another flash of light found an almost instantaneous thunder! I hurriedly put my trails of trails (without socks), I grabbed my waterproof and I conquered my tent the best thing you can. We hope through very close lighting and the torrential downpour for about 40 minutes before the storm would pass and we returned to our hail loaded tents. (Recipe shared an excellent «thanksgiving parfait» that helped us lift our mood after the storm.
West Collegiate views
After our stormy experience, we continue to increase early for our West university students. I quickly learned that even with diligent planning and alpine start schedules, no one can completely escape from the color storms in July.
Crossing on Cottonwood Pass demonstrated this point when the first thunder rolled around 11 am I waited for about half an hour, but they did not go anywhere. Nor were they increasing in their terrifying, so I naively took this as what could happen. When I began to go up the crest, they certainly did not pass. I started listening to a distant thunder and consolidated myself false in the fact that I was distant. This changed when I saw Lightning hit the crest towards which I was running, so I quickly accepted my losses and rescued myself in a group of trees under the crest when the rain and hail began to pour.
Fortunately, after an hour of refuge, the sky cleared (and even offered us some sun)! I was delighted to overcome the pass! I’m glad I rescued. I have read too Jack London to think that I can overcome Mother Nature. (Thanks to my high school teachers for including this in their curriculum and instilling this logical in me).
When I went through impressive wild flowers and crossed amazing alpine passes, I began to feel that I was gaining my legs of hikers very slowly. The West referee really tried my strength, but hastened to reward with expansive views from the country of Co High Country!
I left the path on Boss Lake Trailhead for a Nero in Butterfly House! Speaking of rewards, tonight was a spectacular way of relaxing with showers, hachky sacks and limonada of newly squeezed watermelon. Shane is an excellent host, and it was great to connect with faces of new and family trails!
