Wrexham AFC plays against Liverpool in the friendlies

Wrexham AFC will play a friendly against Liverpool at the Yankee Stadium this summer as part of its East Coast tour, and by then the fast-rising Welsh club will know whether it has reached the Premier League.

Wrexham have earned an unprecedented number of promotions in a row and are playing in the Second Championship for the first time since the 1980s.

The rise up the English football pyramid, documented in the Emmy-winning TV series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, began in 2022 with promotion from the non-league fifth division.

Wrexham currently sit sixth in the Championship with eleven games remaining in the season. The top two finishers will automatically secure promotion to the Premier League and the teams finishing third to sixth will qualify for the end-of-season play-offs for the one additional promotion spot.

Wrexham’s three-match tour, announced on Wednesday, starts against Leeds at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on July 25. The match against Liverpool is on July 29. The team will then face Sunderland at Subaru Park near Philadelphia on August 2.
