Replacement of Manchester City Iman Beny hit an 88th minute winner while her side of Arsenal defeated 3-2 at home on Saturday to climb to the second in the Women’s Super League (WSL), a point behind Chelsea after five games.
In a game full of opportunities, Kerstin Casparij crossed to Khadija Shaw to send city 1-0 during the break, but Mariona Caldentey was leveled for Arsenal in the first minute of the second half.
Casparij scored just after the hour to restore the hosts’ lead, but former city player Chloe Kelly delivered a nice equalizer in the 83rd minute before the Beney hit a loose ball and the winner hit home five minutes later.
This season, Chelsea dropped points for the first time in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Friday, but is at the top of the table at 13 points, with United Third on 11.
Tottenham Hotspur, which stands opposite Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, is fourth and Arsenal’s first defeat of the season left them in fifth position.
