Manchester City resumed the hunt for the title on Sunday with a 2-0 win over Everton as the Women’s Super League returned after the winter break, but second-placed Chelsea remain in the chase after a 5-0 win over West Ham United.
Brazilian forward Kerolin provided a first-half opener for City, and Dutch forward Viviane Miedema added a second in the 63rd minute to secure the win, with Everton goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan making a series of fine saves to keep the score low.
Reigning champions Chelsea, who have won the last six league titles, took full advantage of a litany of defensive errors from their visitor on the way to a comfortable 5-0 win, with Sandy Baltimore scoring twice.
City top the standings with 33 points, while Chelsea, who lost seven points in a three-match nightmare in November and December, came second with 27 points.
