Lamine Yamal was nominated on Thursday for the FIFA Puskas Award for the best men’s goal of last season, with Brazilian great Marta shortlisted for the FIFA Marta Award, the women’s prize named after her.
Barcelona teenager Yamal’s goal was scored against Espanyol in May – a trademark curling shot with the left foot after running over the defense from the right flank.
Marta got the ball in the center circle, then sprinted and dribbled past two defenders, surrounded the goalkeeper and scored into an empty net while playing for Orlando Pride against Kansas City Current.
FIFA has selected eleven nominees for each award, which will be voted on in equal blocks by fans online and a group of former international players.

The deadline for the vote is December 3. It is unclear whether FIFA will award the award two days later during the draw for the men’s World Cup tournament, which will be held in the presence of US President Donald Trump in Washington DC.
Nominees for the men’s award include Arsenal’s Declan Rice for his free-kick against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals and Lucas Ribeiro for running solo from the center spot to score for Mamelodi Sundowns against Borussia Dortmund at the Club World Cup.
Ally Sentnor’s swerve shot for the United States against Colombia during the SheBelieves Cup has been nominated for the Marta Award. The same goes for Vivianne Miedema’s floating shot for the Netherlands against Wales at the Women’s European Championship.
