Yogi saves the day – the walk

68-20 miles today from Pinefield Hut to Lewis Mountain Campsite, 4,900 feet high, 3,900 feet below, total 993 to miles

Large tent

No one slept in the shelter last night. Mosquitoes will probably tear you now. Many more hikers entered after having grabbed one of the last sites in the hill.

The site was flat but rocky. I still take the three -people store store and shared. I could probably shave a pair of pounds from my back with a person’s tent, but Knockerz will return here soon. In addition, there is no place to take another store at this time.

Camp sites difficult to find

Today I started at 7:30 am, it is a bustling day with possibilities of rain and thunderstorms this afternoon. The Shennies are similar to the smoked ones in which there are designated camp spaces in which it is supposed to camp. Unfortunately, unlike the Smokies, the designated camps here are these mega national park sites charge $ 30 per night. They are configured for RVS.

The shelters do not seem to have much space for the store near them. There are some stealth sites that are apparently camping unlike smakies. In the Smokies, you must camp in designated sites of tents. Without stealthy camping. Campar in the Shennies is difficult to find.

The path continues to ride from one side to another through the horizon unit. Some sections of the AT wind around to return to Skyline Drive again, especially around the Mega Campings. It is a path of paths of several miles without another reason that is not going around the megasito.

Today’s objective is to try to follow my 15 mile diet per day, but as yesterday I am not sure if I can do it. I don’t want to increase my miles too fast and receive an injury due to excessive use. However, both water sources and stealth camps are difficult to find. At trips along the crest so that the topography generally does not lend itself well to camp stealthily with steep drops on both sides of the path.

Conversation

While I did the first climb, I approached the old school that was walking at a rhythm similar to me. We started walking together for a while and before I realized it was at 11:30. We had gone through almost 8 miles of hiking. We pass the 900 mile brand.

After days of walking alone, it is nice to walk with another person and have a conversation to keep the miles passing.

In a gap I met Dirtnap and two other people I had been traveling with. One of them had a support vehicle that offered a beer that I happily drink. We chat for a while. A former Dr. Who Who through a hiker arrived while we were drinking the beers and told us that another former hiker, Tinker, in the Lewis Mountain camp would allow us to camp in his place if he needed it.

Gentle

Hiking is quite easy in Shennies. The qualifications can be difficult sometimes, but they are not long and most of the path is well maintained. The surface of the path in many sections is soft and not too many obstacles to climbing. Therefore, it is easier to make great miles.

Snake!

Leaving Swift Run Gap, I started the climb where I found what I thought was initially a huge black snake. I had read some comments from someone about that huge black snake that surprises someone else. So, although my first reaction was to stop my second reaction was Oh that is that communication cable.

Berries

The miles on the path click. I stopped lunch and survivor, a young super tall of England, came and talked to me for a moment.

It was lamenting heat, humidity and insects. He told me they didn’t have them in the United Kingdom. We also compare notes about blackberries. I told him about Blackberry’s shakes and he asked me that the blackberries are not so common to eat. I explained that blackberries are a big thing, especially in the southeast. Then he told me about the currants and how they make journeys of the currants. I am not sure what is a currants.

Perfume

When I approached a picnic shelter, I began to smell perfume. I was a good quarter mile away from the picnic area, but the wind was apparently blowing in my direction. When I arrived at a crossroads, there were some women waiting there. They were definitely the source of the perfume he had been smelling.

I still surprise how well I can smell aromas that I would not have noticed. I know that I have also been insensitive to the bad smell of us through the garbage of hikers.

Water is difficult to find

Going through the last source of water for a while I noticed that it was at least 3 tenths of the path. I decided to ration my liter room until the next water source at 3.5 miles away, which is supposed to be very close to the path.

After today, I will have reached the middle of the 107 miles of the Shennies.

While the hill went up to Lewis Campground Survivor he appeared behind me. I asked him how it had happened. He told me that he had stopped in spring and decided to take a short nap. He spent a couple of hours before he woke up.

Yogi saves the day – the walk

Yogi

Yogi is when you appear and people give you food because they see your empty bowl. When I arrived at the Lewis camp, I found a ticket that offered me a tent site. Unfortunately I had no rooms. The sink had warm water, so I washed in the trash style of the hiker.

I used my dirty stockings as a wipe. I rinsed them several times before using them, but I couldn’t make rinse water not brown. I used my dirty and humid path shirt as a towel.

I changed to my only other clothes that was a pair of clean stockings, clean socks and a clean path shirt.

An Australian couple who had become a friend of Tinker invited me to a little champagne and a meal. It was a wonderful meal. I was slightly raining, but they also had fire. Shortly after dusk, I went to my tent with a complete belly and a clean body.
