Bayern Munich overturned a two-goal deficit to stun holders Arsenal 3-2 in the Women’s Champions League on Wednesday as Manchester United defeated Paris Saint-Germain on a memorable night at Old Trafford.
Emily Fox’s early header and Mariona Caldentey’s shot from the edge of the penalty area in the 23rd minute appeared to have given Arsenal full control in Munich.
But Bayern dug deep in the second half to pull off an astonishing turnaround.
Alara started the fightback in the 67th minute, with substitute Pernille Harder’s superb strike bringing the Germans level, before Glodis Viggosdottir grabbed the winner and headed home Klara Buehl’s low cross with four minutes to go.
This was Arsenal’s second defeat of three, and it left the London side in the play-off zone for a place in the quarter-finals in the new format competition stage.
The 18-team rankings are led by three-time winners Barcelona, who brushed aside Belgian European debutants OH Leuven 3-0.
Alexia Putellas opened the scoring for the hosts with a penalty in stoppage time in the first half.

An own goal from Kim Everaerts extended Barca’s lead after the break, with Irene Paredes completing a good night’s work to make it three from three and lift the Spaniards top of the standings on Lyon’s goal difference.
Later, Manchester United made sure its first-ever European match at Old Trafford, rather than its regular home ground at the 12,000-capacity Leigh Sports Village pitch, was one to remember with a 2-1 win against Paris Saint-Germain.
The match marked former United goalkeeper Mary Earps’ first return to her former club since her move to France.
Melvine Malard’s curling strike denied Earps’ United’s first shot on target after the half hour but Olda Carmona, author of Spain’s World Cup winner against England, leveled in stoppage time in the first half.
After an excellent build-up involving Jess Park, Anna Sandberg crossed for Fridolina Rolfo and headed in the decider after 58 minutes, making it three from three in United’s Champions League debut.
It moved the side into third place on goal difference and on course for direct qualification to the quarter-finals, while PSG remained pointless.
Elsewhere, Juventus defeated Atletico Madrid 2-1 and held Benfica Twente to a 1-1 draw.
