Dortmund lost their lead with ten men and ended up with a 1-1 draw at Freiburg

Borussia Dortmund had Jobe Bellingham sent off early in the second half and conceded an equalizer in the 75th minute as they drew 1-1 against Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday and missed the chance to take over second place.

Dortmund had the hosts firmly on the back foot in a strong first half, missing several golden chances and hitting the post through Carney Chukwuemeka in the 21st minute before Ramy Bensebaini broke the deadlock from close range 10 minutes later.

However, the balance changed almost immediately in the 53rd when Bellingham was sent off for a last-man foul on Philipp Treu after the Freiburg player tried to intercept a clumsy pass from Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

The hosts made the extra man count and found more space to attack, with True firing a shot wide in the 64th minute. Kobel tapped Yuito Suzuki’s effort onto the crossbar nine minutes later.

However, he was completely helpless as Lucas Hoeler controlled the ball with one touch and then struck spectacularly into the far top corner to level the ball.

Freiburg put the ball in the net again late in the match, but the effort was offside.

The draw puts Dortmund in third place with 29 points, compared to second-placed RB Leipzig, who lost 3-1 at Union Berlin on Friday. Leader Bayern Munich has 37 and hosts Mainz 05 later on Sunday, when it can increase its lead.
