Reigning champions East Bengal started their title defense in the Indian Women’s League (IWL) with a narrow 1-0 win over Sethu FC at the Kalyani Stadium on Wednesday.
Soumya Guguloth scored the only goal in the 77th minute after the striker on the turn sent Sulanjana Raul’s lay-off towards goal, past an outstretched goalkeeper in Anjila Subba.
The Moshal Girls returned to action just three days after winning the inaugural edition of the SAFF Women’s Club Championship with a 3-0 win over Nepal’s APF FC in the final.
Earlier in the day, Nita Football Academy registered its first win of the 2025-2026 season, demolishing Sesa Football Academy 6-1 at the National Center of Excellence in Kolkata.
Pyari Nita FA’s Togolese forward Amiratou N’Djambara (25′, 60′) scored two, while midfielder Bhumika Devi (6′) netted one. Sesa’s Ghanaian striker Diana Antwi (90+3′) pulled one back at the end.
Nita FA advance to four points from two games and currently top the IWL table, while Sesa has yet to open its account.
