Bayern Munich vs VfL Wolfsburg — Kompany provides injury update on Neuer, Musiala and Kimmich

Bayern Munich will miss several players, including Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala, but will have goalkeeper Manuel Neuer back for the Bundesliga restart against visitors VfL Wolfsburg after the winter break, coach Vincent Kompany said on Saturday.

The Bavarians, unbeaten in the league this season, will also be without Sacha Boey and Alphonso Davies on Sunday as they look to extend their eight-point lead at the top of the table.

Kompany said Germany international Musiala, who suffered a fractured fibula and broken ankle during the Club World Cup last July, was on the verge of a comeback but Sunday’s match was still too early.

“He will not be available for this match yet,” Kompany said at a press conference on Saturday. «We are close, but we don’t want to take the final step too quickly. This week has been good for him. He has done the full training.»

Bayern are in first place with 41 points, eight ahead of second-placed Borussia Dortmund, who needed an injury-time goal to salvage a 3-3 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday. It will increase its lead with a victory.

“I want to see our strengths, regardless of the opponent,” Kompany said. “I want to see us at home as Bayern Munich and play our game even against strong opponents.”

Bayern has never lost against Wolfsburg in Munich in 28 league matches, of which 26 were won and two were drawn.
