Edoardo Bove has agreed to end his contract with Roma after a heartbreak that will see the midfielder move to England.
Bove’s promising career was in jeopardy after he collapsed on the pitch while on loan to Fiorentina in a high-profile clash with Inter Milan in December 2024.
“Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in his career,” Roma said in a statement.
The 23-year-old has not played since being discharged from hospital with a defibrillator installed, a device that forced him to move abroad if he wanted to continue playing professional football.
The permanent presence of a defibrillator, which ensures a regular heartbeat, prevents footballers from playing in Italy due to the strict health regulations that apply to the sport in the country.

Christian Eriksen was forced to leave Inter in 2021 due to his cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at that year’s European Championship.
Italian media are widely reporting that Bove is about to sign for Watford, which is participating in the second championship in England.
Bove broke into his hometown’s first team, team Roma, in 2021 while still a teenager and gained the trust of Jose Mourinho.
His best moment for Roma was scoring the only goal in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final against Bayer Leverkusen, a draw that Mourinho’s team won before losing the final on penalties to Sevilla.
