Eze in the summer, Guehi now: Glasner criticizes Crystal Palace management for letting the squad down

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner hit out at the club’s hierarchy on Saturday following a 1-2 Premier League defeat to Sunderland, saying his side have been «completely let down».

Glasner, who led Palace to FA Cup glory last season, the first major trophy in their 164-year history, said on Friday he would leave at the end of the season.

He also confirmed on the eve of the trip to Sunderland that defender Marc Guehi, the captain, would join Manchester City – the latest high-profile departure from the squad.

“I feel like we are being completely let down,” he told the newspaper BBC. «I can’t blame any player. They did everything they could and this has been going on for weeks and months now.»

«We have 12, 13 players available from the squad and we don’t feel any support. The worst thing is that we sell our captain a day before playing a Premier League match.»

«We are preparing, it is the first week we train since September and then we sell our captain the day before a match. So I have no idea about this.»

City have agreed to pay £20 million for Guehi, who was on the verge of joining Liverpool last year before the deal fell through at the last minute. Eberechi Eze, who scored the winning goal in the cup final against Manchester City, was sold to Arsenal in August.

“I have always kept my mouth shut, but I can’t because I have to defend these players because today was the 35th match,” he said. «If you get your heart ripped out twice this season, one day before a match, it was at Eze in the summer, and now at Guehi…»

«What do I have to tell the players all the time? What do I have to tell them? And then I see today’s performance for 50, 60 minutes – it was not easy with all the conditions here with 12 players from the squad.

«I’m looking at the bench, I can’t respond, just kids on the bench, and this didn’t happen yesterday, this was weeks ago. That’s why I’m really frustrated today.»

When asked if he would leave before the season is over, Glasner said: «No, never, I would never do that. I will stay with this group of players until the end.»
