Al Nassr put in an impressive performance at the King Abdullah Sport City Stadium in Buraydah on Friday, recording a 3-0 win against Al Kholood.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Kingsley Coman and Mohamed Simakan were the three goalscorers for the Knights of Najd.
Al Nassr remains second in the table with 43 points from 18 matches, three behind leaders Al Hilal.
As expected, Al Nassr started on the front foot and for the first fifteen minutes the Al Kholood backline worked overtime to thwart the pressure. The Knights of Najd came close to scoring in the fifth minute after Ronaldo’s shot into an empty net following Juan Pablo Cozzani’s failed clearance, but the effort was cleared off the line.
The home side were not a complete pushover as they gradually began to mount their own attacks and began to penetrate into the final third.
AS IT HAPPENED: KLD VS NAS HIGHLIGHTS
The team had the best chance from a free kick from close range, but Abdulaziz Al-Aliwa squandered that chance when he sent his shot straight into the hands of Al Nassr keeper Bento.
Al Kholood had plenty to look forward to at the start of the second half as it prevented Al Nassr from scoring in the first 45 while creating the occasional chance. But as Al Nassr often does, it ended up killing the match in short order.
In the 48th minute, Joao Felix combined with Ronaldo, who eventually scored the opener with a tap-in from close range.
Five minutes later, Felix turned provider again, assisting Simakan from a corner as the latter found the net with a powerful header near the post.
Two quick goals took the tension out of the match and from then on it was a tired performance from Al Kholood. To make matters worse, the captain, Hattan Bahebri, saw a harsh straight red card for an apparent elbow on Simakan, which, as the replay shows, didn’t look like much.
As a 2-0 win seemed imminent, Al Nassr fans were given even more reason to celebrate when their team were awarded a penalty late in the match after Solan fouled Coman in the penalty area. When Ronaldo was knocked out, Coman, who had won the penalty, stood over the ball and sent the keeper the wrong way to score his team’s third of the evening.
