Hello fellow hikers!
Me!
I’m Ben, hiker name pending…, and I, with my girlfriend Miranda, will be walking the Iceland crossing from north to south this year and I can’t wait to write all about it. We hiked the GDT (Great Divide Trail) in Canada last year (2025) and completely fell in love with hiking and outdoor adventures of all kinds. I hope this blog showcases our hiking trip and is a very real insight into how we grow and change as people and hikers during our adventures. Likewise, if one or two people learn something from the mistakes we make, that’s a bonus!
Miranda and I met at University, where we spent most of our time in the rain, climbing the peaks of Snowdonia National Park in Wales. So we missed out on a first class title… We endured the most horrible weather the UK could throw at us until we decided we should try the North American side of backpacking. You know, good weather, and of course, absolutely beautiful landscapes. We arrived at GDT straight out of college and took our first steps into long-distance hiking and backpacking. We will never look back!

The obsession
As the title of this section suggests, I. Am. Obsessed! Before we even planned to do the GDT, I spent most of my waking hours researching hikes, finding out everything I could about triple crown trails, gear, and finally watching long-distance hikes on and off trails around the world. I know too much for someone with little experience, but maybe that’s how it is. However, nothing comes close to the true knowledge gained from the physical experience of hiking on the trail and that is what this hike is all about. I want to dedicate my life to outdoor adventures for as long as I enjoy them and this is just the next step in what I hope will be a very long journey.
GDT AHiking and blogging
My goal is to write as much as I can in our short 3 week tour. Whenever something interesting happens, a funny story comes up, or something comes up that might be helpful to someone aspiring to walk this trail, I’ll post it! The amount of signal I will receive on the road will probably be very limited. So, I’ll write and post when I have signal or even when we get back. If I write like I talk about backpacking, there will probably be one post a day. Each one as uninteresting as the other! Follow this year’s Iceland Traverse adventure and get in touch if you like the blog.
See you there!
