Premier League 2025-26: Carrick looks forward to Frank’s reunion when Man United face Spurs


Michael Carrick will face Thomas Frank, just a few months after interviewing the Tottenham manager, when Manchester United look for a fourth successive Premier League win under their interim boss at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Former Spurs, United and England midfielder Carrick has had an ideal start to his time as manager. At this rate, this time could last much longer than the planned end of the season, with wins over Manchester City, Premier League leaders Arsenal and last week’s dramatic 3-2 defeat of Fulham.

Next up for Carrick are Spurs, with Carrick having interviewed opposition manager Frank ahead of the Dane’s first Champions League match in charge of the north London club.

“Yes, (life) can definitely change,” Carrick said as he reflected on the Amazon Prime interview in September. “I actually really enjoyed it.

Frank joined Spurs this summer after impressing at London rivals Brentford, but his position has been repeatedly questioned due to the club’s inconsistency.

But European form has helped improve Tottenham’s results, with last weekend’s 2-2 draw at home to City part of a four-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

«They’ve had players injured, a lot of problems and a lot of changes in the team, which makes things a lot more challenging and difficult from their perspective. But they’re getting players back.»

‘Good memories’

The 44-year-old added: «We’re in a good place and the boys have worked well again this week. Once again, with our feet on the ground, we won’t let ourselves get carried away by what has happened. It’s back to what’s next.»

Tottenham won all four meetings against United last season, including May’s Europa League final in Bilbao Enlace simple.

Carrick will be hoping to end that run against a club where he spent two seasons before moving to Old Trafford in 2006 on an £18.6 million ($25.2 million) contract.

“I have very fond memories of Tottenham and my time at the club,” said Carrick. “If you look back, I was only there for a short time, but I enjoyed it immensely.

“Good team, Martin Jol was the manager and I learned a lot of things in that short time at the club.

“But I’ve said it often enough: coming here (United) was a leap and a big leap at the time. I certainly felt that quite quickly, and then I think as soon as you step in here as a footballer, you change.

“So from the first day I walked into the dressing room and met the manager, that was me from then on.”
