Cole Palmer shatters records with hat-trick in Chelsea vs Wolves

Cole Palmer led the Chelsea show and broke several records as his side defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 in the Premier League at the Molineux Stadium on Saturday.

Palmer was in ice-cold form as he converted two penalties before drilling a clinical finish into the roof of the net to complete his treble before the break.

With the hat-trick he became the 31st player to surpass the 50-goal mark for Chelsea, and now has the most hat-tricks for the Blues, surpassing club legends Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and Dutch striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who all have three each.

His three goals before half-time also made him the only player in Premier League history to score three hat-tricks in the first half, against Everton, Brighton and Hove Albion and Wolves.

Palmer has had his minutes carefully managed by the club since returning from a groin injury in November and is yet to have a sustained run of games under the new manager.

“When he can shoot at full range and feels good, he is a great footballer,” Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior said.

“When you are at this club with these demands and controls, which I am starting to learn myself, you have to block out the noise and remember what a good player you are.

«I enjoy working with him. He loves being here. Hopefully he can really enjoy his football between now and the end of the season.»
