In search of the Triple Crown

Trails are like chips, you can’t eat just one! No one is happy to be a double crowner! I have a lot of one-liners, but actually, when I completed the PCT, my wife knew the CDT was right in my sights!

As we build our hiking resume, we exude confidence based on our experiences on the trails. Familiarity breeds trust! I’m always excited to plan the trail, it’s part of the adventure and the journey!

If I’m honest, planning the CDT was initially the most stressful and stressful experience I’ve ever had! This choose your own adventure had little easily accessible information! My map app did not accurately provide concise mileage or elevation values! There weren’t many books on the way. Great unrest was brewing!

There was a lot of work to develop my plan. I read everything I could. I watched my friend Cheer’s YouTube videos and those of some other hikers. Attended CDTC zoom meetings on trail updates and general information. I discovered many resources along the way. It took me more than a few weeks to regain my confidence and fun in planning this adventure! I promised at the end to write a “how to” book based on my personal experiences!

The international border on the border between Montana and British Columbia.

I taught myself not to get overwhelmed by this choose-your-own-adventure thing. I first started by planning all the sections I didn’t want to miss, such as: the Gila River Trail, Knapsack Col, and the Cirque of the Towers, to name a few! Then I used the planning tools I discovered through research.

My book is designed to flatten the learning curve of this path by introducing you to these tools and inspiring you to consider alternatives to what I did too! The trail’s nickname is Embrace the Brutality! In my book I analyzed the perceived brutality of each section to better prepare you! Lihat juga iusj8. I also go in-depth on sharing routes, resupply strategies, trail resources, and a ton of options! I even provide a budget for this hike and ways to save money too!

I provide a personal perspective of my trip without spoiling the greatness of this beautiful trail!

My newly published book available on Amazon!

In my book I also have links for the flora and fauna on the trail. When you click on each individual image, the Latin nomenclature for each flower, tree, shrub, insect and animal appears, as well as the exact location indicated below with map and GPS coordinates. There’s my infamous video of my too-close encounter with a grizzly bear and three cubs that became the photorealistic cover of my book!

I froze this photo from my video!

Also linked are some of my favorite videos I made on the trail!

The goal of my book is not only to inspire and introduce you to the CDT, but also to provide you with a useful tool for planning this tour and others. Enjoy reading!

Happy trails!
