The Spanish Football Federation suspended Sevilla coach Matias Almeyda for seven matches on Wednesday after his dismissal during last weekend’s La Liga match.
Almeyda was sent off late on Saturday in Sevilla FC’s 1-1 home draw against Deportivo Alaves after a clash with match officials.
The federation’s disciplinary committee said the sanction included three matches for contempt towards the referee, two for complaints addressed to the team on duty, one for failing to immediately leave the technical area after a red card was shown, and one for behavior deemed contrary to public order.

After his dismissal, Almeyda remained briefly on the sidelines and sought an explanation from the referee.
He later apologized for his actions, but added that he wanted clarity on the decision.
Sevilla called the punishment «excessive» and said it would appeal the sanction.
