ISL 2025-26: Maclaren, Petratos on target as Mohun Bagan beat Chennaiyin

Mohun Bagan Super Giant won its second game on the trot of the 2025-26 Indian Super League season with a comfortable 2-0 win over Chennaiyin FC at the Salt Lake Stadium on Monday.

Australian striker Jamie Maclaren opened the scoring late in the first half, while compatriot Dimitri Petratos sealed the victory midway through the second period.

Mohun Bagan gradually built momentum and sent much of its attacking play down the flanks, with Liston Colaco and Brazilian Robson Robinho repeatedly providing crosses into the Chennaiyin penalty area.

Despite the continued pressure, Chennaiyin’s defense held firm and denied Petratos and Maclaren clear opportunities.

The breakthrough came just before half-time when Anirudh Thapa produced a precise through ball that split the Chennaiyin defense and found Maclaren, who calmly slotted past substitute Samik Mitra.

Chennaiyin were earlier forced to make a substitution after first-choice keeper Mohammad Nawaz suffered an injury in a collision in the goalmouth around the half-hour mark.

After the restart, Mohun Bagan pushed for a second goal to put the match beyond doubt. The insurance strike came in the 65th minute. Left back Subhasish Bose sent a pinpoint cross to the far post, where Petratos met the ball with a powerful volley. Although Mitra got a hand in the effort, he could not prevent it from finding the back of the net.

Given their dominance, the Mariners could have scored more goals, but after the second a hint of complacency crept in as their finishing became erratic qaz2.

Petratos had a chance to complete his brace in the 70th minute when he connected again with an inviting cross, but failed to keep his volley on target.

In a move involving two substitutes, Amay Ranawade cut the ball back from the right for Manvir Singh in the 82nd minute. The attacker controlled well, but saw his powerful attempt end up in the side netting.

The result marked Mohun Bagan’s second consecutive win of the campaign, taking their total to six points from two matches. For Chennaiyin, a second successive defeat has given coach Clifford Miranda plenty to think about as he tries to guide his side out of the doldrums.
