The Mexican president says he is willing to organize World Cup matches in Iran


Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed on Tuesday that her country is ready to host Iran’s first round match at the 2026 World Cup if necessary due to the conflict in the Middle East.

When asked at a news conference about reports that Iran’s soccer federation was negotiating with FIFA to move its matches out of the United States, Sheinbaum said her country could respond favorably cdso.

When previously contacted by AFP on this, FIFA said it “looks forward to all participating teams competing according to the match schedule announced on December 6, 2025”.
