The trail is a cathedral

Sitting in my tent on a cold, stormy night, hoping I’ve positioned my new trekking pole correctly, I pull my backpacking rosary out of my camping bag.

(Yes, backpacking rosaries exist and are really cool.)

Happy with myself that I remembered to download the appropriate songs to my phone before I lost signal, I close my eyes, take a deep breath, and let the weight of the rosary center me.

«Thank you. Thank you for doing all this. And allowing us to explore it. And for keeping me safe.»

At some point I fall asleep and wake up with the dawn.

The morning is calm and bright.

“Thank you for this day.”

Another day in the most magnificent cathedral ever built.
