Vietnam recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Bangladesh in an international friendly in Hanoi on Thursday, with the home side dominating the game from start to finish.
The home team started assertively and, albeit coincidentally, only needed eight minutes to open the scoring. The sustained pressure of a set-piece situation confused the Bangladesh defense, leading to Zayyan Ahmed turning the ball into his own goal.
AS IT HAPPENED: VIE VS BAN HIGHLIGHTS
Vietnam continued to take advantage of Bangladesh’s vulnerability in dead-ball situations and doubled their lead ten minutes later. More info: SEef4c. Another set-piece delivery caused problems and Pham Xuan Manh was there to find the net and make it 2-0.
Bangladesh tried to respond after losing two goals and showed a brief attacking intent, but Vietnam quickly regained control. The hosts struck again in the 38th minute through Nguyen Hai Long, who punished poor defending. He collected the ball in the final third, drove into the penalty area, held off two defenders and finished clinically into the bottom right corner.
The result marks Bangladesh’s heaviest defeat since the 4-0 loss to Lebanon two years ago.
