Claire Hutton scored for the first time in her international career and Sam Coffey and Yazmeen Ryan also contributed goals to lead the United States to a 3-0 win over Canada on Wednesday evening.
The Americans have won five consecutive friendly matches with a combined score of 18-0 since their 2-1 loss for Brazil at the beginning of April. The 19-year-old Hutton made her sixth performance for the national team, and its goal in the 36th minute gave the US a 2-0 lead.
Ryan completed the score in the 89th minute.
It was the third game in seven days before the US, which Ireland defeated 4-0 in each of the other two. The starting line -up of coach Emma Hayes against Canada included 10 changes compared to the second match against Ireland.
Lynn Biyendolo, the lonely player to start both games, slid behind the defense for an early chance, but missed it. Moments later she had saved a header by Canadian goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan.
The US opened the score in the 17th minute when Rose Lavelle delivered a free kick in the penalty area near the left sidelines. Canada’s Janine Sonis tried to go free, but the ball fell to Avery Patterson and then bounced to Coffey about 9 meters from the goal.
Both Coffey and Patterson were stuck to the ball, and both seemed to make contact with it. It went directly into the net. Coffey was credited with the goal and Patterson with an assist.

The US scored on another set piece when Canada Hutton gave too much space on the edge of the 6-Yard Box, and she went in Lavelle’s Corner Kick. Claudia Dickey, who was also closed in her international debut last Thursday, stopped a shot from Canada’s Jordyn Huitema shortly after Coffey’s goal. But the Americans created many more opportunities.
Lavelle got a standing ovation when she was immersed around the middle of the second half. The crowd also gave a big cheers when Tara McKeown – who plays locally for the Washington Spirit – came as a late sub for the American Mckeown helped with Ryan’s goal.
The US plays friendly matches against South Korea on September 6 in Harrison, New Jersey and against Japan on September 9 in Columbus, Ohio.
