Tottenham Hotspur condemned the «despicable, inhuman racism» against defender Kevin Danso on social media on Sunday after his mistake gave Brighton & Hove Albion a late equalizer, sending the Premier League side into the relegation zone.
Brighton scored in the final minutes after the 27-year-old Austrian national team player was cleared off the ball, allowing Georginio Rutter to make it 2-2.
Tottenham are still looking for their first league win in 2026 and are in 18th place with five games left in the season.
“Kevin Danso has been and continues to be subjected to significant and abhorrent racist abuse on social media,” Spurs said in a statement on the latest flare-up of racism that remains alarmingly common in European football.
«We have heard and seen despicable, dehumanizing racism. Behavior that is without a doubt a criminal offense. It will not be tolerated,» she added.

The club said it reported content to London’s Metropolitan Police, other authorities and social media platforms. British police are increasingly cracking down on those found guilty of racism, with arrests and bans, but are still struggling to stamp it out.
«We will insist on the strongest possible action against any person we identify. Kevin has our full and unconditional support as a player and as a person. No one at this club will ever stand alone in the face of this. Nothing about form or position in the league can ever excuse or explain racist abuse,» Spurs added.
Danso said he saw the comments directed at him on a weekend in which the Premier League promoted its ‘No Room For Racism’ initiative.
«There is no place for racial abuse in this game or anywhere else. But it doesn’t define me, and it won’t distract me from what’s important. I know who I am, what I stand for and why I play. Now it’s about staying focused, working harder and coming back stronger for the next games,» he said. Instagram.
