Soccer fans heading to Philadelphia for the FIFA World Cup can take advantage of free transportation after all six matches in the city, Philadelphia Soccer 2026 said Monday, thanks to a partnership with travel rental platform Airbnb.
The announcement is in stark contrast to some host cities raising transportation prices during the tournament.
On Friday, New Jersey announced that public transportation tickets for games will cost $150, a more than tenfold increase. Fans in Boston, meanwhile, will have to pay $95 for a round-trip bus ride to Gillette Stadium.
While regular fares apply for travel to the games at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field stadium, SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority) offers free train rides home, with service beginning at halftime and continuing until two hours after the end of games.
“My administration has invested millions of dollars to ensure SEPTA trains continue to run smoothly as we embark on an epic year of sports in Philadelphia,” Gov. Josh Shapiro said in a statement.
“And I’m glad Airbnb is committed to offering free rides to fans so they can get home safely and affordably.”
Philadelphia will host five group stage matches, starting with Ivory Coast against Ecuador on June 14, along with a round of 16 tie.
