Days 5 and 6 provided a variety of desert experiences. I left Mt. Laguna in near-freezing temperatures, it rained a little, and I hiked past the 50-mile marker in very high winds. We camped at the 18 mile mark, still in strong winds.
It was difficult to sleep with the wind and the temperature was below zero again. I woke up to a damp sleeping bag and a frozen tent, so I packed up and started walking. The sun came out after about 30 minutes, so I spread out my tent and sleeping bag while I made oatmeal and coffee.
It’s amazing how good the combination of oatmeal, coffee and sunshine was for my mood!
A long, hot drive through the desert plus a quick pull at Scissors Crossing got me to Julian in time for dinner on night 6.
Very blessed….
