Benfica coach Jose Mourinho said on Friday that there has been no contact between him and Real Madrid, despite speculation that the Spanish giants could turn to him this summer.
The veteran Portuguese coach, who led Los Blancos from 2010 to 2013 in a heated rivalry with Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona, is reportedly on Madrid’s shortlist for a new coach.
Current Madrid boss Alvaro Arbeloa looks set to be replaced, leaving the team without a major trophy for the second consecutive season.
«No one from Real Madrid has spoken to me. I can guarantee that,» the 63-year-old Mourinho told reporters.
«I have been in football for so many years and I am used to these things… but there is nothing from Real Madrid,» added Mourinho, who guided Real to the La Liga title in 2012.

Madrid president Florentino Perez appointed Arbeloa in January to replace Xabi Alonso, who had only been at the helm for a few months.
Real Madrid is eleven points behind La Liga leader Barcelona with five games to go and was eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.
«I still have one year left on my contract at Benfica and that’s it,» said Mourinho, whose side were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid in February’s play-off round.
