Bournemouth player Justin Kluivert returns from surgery ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Dutch forward Justin Kluivert’s return to Bournemouth after a four-month absence following knee surgery could boost his hopes of competing in the 2026 World Cup.

Kluivert, 27, who has not played since early January, is expected to be part of Bournemouth’s squad for the Premier League match against Fulham, manager Andoni Iraola said on Friday.

The Cherries go into the weekend in sixth place – currently the Europa League spot – with three games remaining in the season.

Kluivert injured his left knee during Bournemouth’s 3–2 defeat to Arsenal on 3 January and underwent surgery a few days later. This season he scored two goals. He has been training with the team for the past two weeks.

Kluivert, the son of Dutch great Patrick Kluivert, returned to the national team in November 2024 after a six-year absence under national coach Ronald Koeman.

The Dutch open their World Cup campaign against Japan on June 14 in Group F. They also play against Sweden and Tunisia.
