Spanish forward Nico Williams had to be substituted before half-time in Athletic Bilbao’s 1-0 defeat to Valencia on Sunday, raising concerns ahead of the World Cup.
Williams appeared to suffer a hamstring injury and was replaced by brother Inaki Williams in the 37th minute at the San Mamés Stadium.
Nico Williams was sidelined for several weeks earlier this year due to a new injury.
Athletic did not immediately release details about Sunday’s matter.
«He was limping a lot. He had never felt such pain before,» Iñaki Williams said. «It’s worrying given the moment we’re in now. Let’s wait and hope for the best possible scenario.»
23-year-old Nico Williams is a regular in the Spanish selection and plays in attack together with Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, who is also injured.
Spanish national coach Luis de La Fuente will announce a preliminary list of 55 names for the World Cup on Monday.
