Shakhtar and Larnaca fined by UEFA for discriminatory behavior

Shakhtar Donetsk and AEK Larnaca have been fined by UEFA over the discriminatory behavior of their supporters in the Conference League matches with Crystal Palace, European football’s governing body said on Tuesday.

Cypriot club Larnaca was fined 50,000 euros ($58,680) and is also facing a partial stadium closure for the next home match of the UEFA club competition due to fans’ chants during the round of 16 match with Palace in March.

Ukraine’s Shakhtar were fined 30,000 euros and the partial closure of the stadium was suspended for a two-year trial period due to what UEFA described as an «illegal banner» displayed during the first leg of the semi-final in April, when the home leg was played in Krakow, Poland.

Shakhtar was also fined 4,000 euros for lighting fireworks.

Crystal Palace will play Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final in Leipzig on May 27.
