Ligue 1 club Brest appointed Julien Lachuer as its new coach on Saturday.
Brest posted on X that Lachuer had been signed to a two-year contract. He replaces Eric Roy, who passed away on June 17.
The club said Roy had expressed a wish for his former assistant Lachuer to take over the role.
“Julien Lachuer has accepted the responsibility to continue the work of Eric Roy,” Brest said. “He approaches this mission, which feels like a natural legacy, with a deep understanding of the club.”
Lachuer played for Brest as a goalkeeper before joining the coaching staff in 2010.
Roy, a popular figure at the club, worked wonders on a shoestring budget as he guided Brittany to the Champions League after a third-place finish in the 2023/24 Ligue 1 season.
Brest finished twelfth in Ligue 1 last season.
