The one whose prayer is answered – Day 24

My stupidity became a big problem. At the beginning of the day I realized I was out of bleach. The reason this is a big problem is because I use bleach to treat the water.

I prayed and asked God to protect me from illness because it would be at least 2 days before I could get sick. God had a much better plan.

On the way to Carver Gap, I met two men who said their church was demonstrating Trail Magic. That encouraged me. I also thought on the way down that maybe I could ask if they had bleach. But what trace of magic would bleach have, I thought.

The magic of the trail was incredible! I had pancakes and sausages, a banana, a drink and some donuts. I was talking to the two women in the group and I said, “I have a strange question for you, do you have bleach?” I explained that I used it to treat my water. One lady said, «No, we don’t have any.»

But the other lady said to wait because she thought she remembered that they had handwashing kits for norovirus. He went to dig in a storage compartment under his truck and finally pulled out a 5-gallon bucket.

When he opened it, behold, there was a container of household bleach. God is so good! What a wonderful answer to prayer! I was excited and then we are both ladies.

Trail update

As for the trail, I started the day with the summit of Roan Mountain. Helene’s devastation was very evident. Hundreds, if not thousands, trees down.

Then I reached the top of Little Hump and Hump Miuntains. The views were stunning. However, it was very windy.

I finished the day leaving North Carolina for the last time and camped at Doll Flats. I had a great campsite with views of the valley. What I didn’t realize is that when the wind picked up at night, all of the wind was funneled directly through my tent site.

Around midnight, one of my stakes came loose. I should have moved my store sooner. I had to move it to a more protected place. It was an adventure in the dark with wind gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour.

I made it, but I lost the tent peg. With all the wind, not a drop of rain fell.

Thought of the day

This one is fast. God loves you and cares about you, whether you realize it or not. Even with the little things, like when you need bleach.

people i met

I met Bacon today on the magic trail. We walked together for a while. He’s from the same part of Alabama as me. I helped him find a good water source. It was great to meet someone from my same town.

Plant of the day

Today’s plant is Dwarf Larkspur. This plant is often seen growing around rocks.

bird of the day

The Black-throated Blue Warbler is the bird of the day. Males and females have very different colors. This bird spends winter in the Caribbean and has a truly unique song.
