Rafael Nadal denies reports linking him to Real Madrid’s presidential elections

Former tennis player and lifelong Real Madrid fan Rafael Nadal on Wednesday dismissed rumors linking him to the Spanish club’s presidential elections.

«I have read reports linking me to possible candidacies for the presidency of Real Madrid. I would like to clarify that these reports are not true,» said the former world number 1 and fourteen-time French Open champion on X.

This comes a day after current president Florentino Perez called club elections and announced he will run again.

“I am not going to resign,” the 79-year-old Perez said at a news conference towards the end of a season that will see Real Madrid finish trophyless.

Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 2-0 in the Clasico at Camp Nou on Sunday to claim back-to-back La Liga titles with three games remaining.

Madrid exited the Champions League with a quarter-final against Bayern Munich.
