Asian U-15 and U-17 Boxing Championships 2026: Lakshay advances to final, four Indian boxers win bronze medals in Tashkent

The Indian under-17 boys had a challenging day at the 2026 Asian Under-17 Boxing Championships with Lakshay Phogat emerging as the sole finalist while four other boxers secured bronze medals after their semi-finals in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

In the 75kg category, Lakshay Phogat delivered a dominant performance to defeat Seungmin Lee of Korea (KOR) with a unanimous 5:0 decision to book his place in the final. In other semi-finals, Narendra Nella (46kg) lost 0:5 to Abdulloh Nuraliev of Uzbekistan (UZB).

Yash Yadav (50kg) lost 1:4 to Suld Usukhbaatar of Mongolia (MGL), while Nivesh Pal (54kg) suffered a 0:5 defeat to Abdulbosit Yursunboev of Uzbekistan (UZB). In a closely contested fight, Naman (70kg) lost 2:3 to Abduvohid Abdumajidov from Uzbekistan (UZB).

Defending champion Delhi makes an emphatic start in Swami Vivekananda U20 Men’s NFC

Defending champions Delhi started their Group D campaign of the 2025-2026 Swami Vivekananda U20 Men’s Football National Championship with an emphatic 5-1 win against Sikkim, while Tripura, Punjab and Maharashtra also won their respective matches.

Delhi 5 (Parth Subhash Salunke 15′, Kanish Rawat 62′, 67′, Thongbam Lanchenba Singh 69′, Kanak Raj Vohra 90+1′) defeated Sikkim 1 (Sujal Bhujel 50′)

Delhi opened their campaign by beating Sikkim 5-1 at Ground 1 of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama in Narainpur, Chhattisgarh, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

Parth Subhash Salunke gave Delhi an early lead in the first half, but Sujal Bhujel equalized for Sikkim after the restart. Parity did not last long, however, as Kanish Rawat scored two quick goals shortly after the hour mark, putting the match back in Delhi’s favour.

Thongbam Lanchenba Singh and Kanak Raj Vohra added one each, making it a big win for the defending champions.

Tripura 3 (Arma Jamatia 45′, 90+7′, Kishan Debbarma 52′) defeated Himachal Pradesh 0

In the other Group D match, Tripura defeated Himachal Pradesh 3-0 at Ground 1 at the RKM Ashrama.

Arma Jamatia scored in the last regular minute of the first half, and another in stoppage time of the second half, while Kishan Debbarma scored one in between, to make it a comfortable Tripura win.

Delhi moved to the top of Group D with their big win, while Tripura were behind them in second place only on goal difference. The hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim rank third and fourth respectively. Only the best team from each group will advance to the quarter-finals.

Punjab 2 (Jodric Abranches 6′ og, Saqlane Sajid 59′) defeated Goa 1 (Jodric Abranches 36′)

In Group H, Punjab defeated Goa 2-1 at Ground 2 of the RKM Ashrama on Tuesday.

Goa’s Jodric Abranches scored an own goal in the sixth minute to give Punjab an early lead, but soon redeemed himself to level the scores in the 36th minute. However, Saqlane Sajid scored the winner for Punjab just before the hour mark.

Assam 0 lost to Maharashtra 1 (Nirvaan Bhatt 49′)

Maharashtra secured a slim 1-0 win in the second match of Group H after a goalless first half at Ground 2 at the RKM Ashrama.

Nirvaan Bhatt scored the only goal of the match shortly after the restart of the second half.

Punjab takes provisional pole position in Group H with 3 points; Maharashtra, who also have the same number of points, are only one spot behind on goal difference. Goa and Assam rank third and fourth respectively.
