Earlier this season, the two teams met several times in competition. Here’s a look at the last five Kolkata derbies between the two ahead of the all-important match on Sunday:

East Bengal 0-0 Mohun Bagan (AIFF Super Cup – October 31, 2025)

East Bengal had staved off Mohun Bagan Super Giant to play a goalless draw and enter the semi-finals of the 2025-2026 AIFF Super Cup at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao.

Mohun Bagan 1-1 (5-4 pen.) East Bengal (IFA Shield – October 18, 2025)

Mohun Bagan emerged victorious in a nail-biting battle as they defeated East Bengal 5-4 on penalties to win the IFA Shield final – 125th edition – at the Salt Lake Stadium in Calcutta.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 for 120 minutes plus injury time before Mohun gave Bagan its 21st title on penalties.

It was Moroccan striker Hamid Ahadad who broke the deadlock and put the Red and Gold Brigade in charge. However, their joy was short-lived as Mohun Bagan found the equalizer from Lalengmawia (Apuia) Ralte in extra time of the first half.

In the shootout, Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Kaith saved Jay Gupta’s attempt and turned the match in Mohun Bagan’s favor, with Mehtab Singh scoring the winning kick after Robson Robinho, Manvir Singh, Liston Colaco and Dimitri Petratos.

East Bengal had Miguel Ferreira, Kevin Sibille, Naorem Mahesh and Hiroshi Ibusuki convert from the spot.

East Bengal 2-1 Mohun Bagan (Durand Cup 2025 – August 17, 2025)

East Bengal produced a fine essay of attacking football to beat Mohun Bagan 2-1 in the fourth quarter-final of the Durand Cup 2025 tournament at the Salt Lake Stadium in Calcutta.

East Bengal took the lead in the 38th minute when Dimitrios Diamantakos, who came on as a substitute for the injured Hamid Ahadad in the 17th minute, converted a penalty to keep his side ahead in the first half. The Greek forward scored again soon after the break to double East Bengal’s lead in the 52nd minute.

Mohun Bagan pulled one back in the 68th minute through Anirudh Thapa but it was not enough to stop East Bengal from securing the well-deserved victory.

East Bengal 3-2 Mohun Bagan (Calcutta Football League – July 26, 2025)

East Bengal defeated Mohun Bagan 3-2 in the Calcutta Football League (CFL) to take the bragging rights of a thrilling Kolkata Derby at the Kalyani Stadium.

For the Red and Gold Brigade, Jesin TK (9′), Sayan Banerjee (45+6′) and David Lalhlansanga (69′) were the scorers. Leewan Castanha (55′) and Kiyan Nassiri (67′) scored for the Mariners.

Mohan Bagan 1-0 East Bengal (ISL – January 11, 2025)

Mohun Bagan had extended their dominance in the Kolkata Derby with a 1-0 win over East Bengal at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-2025 match.

Amie Maclaren scored the quickest goal of the Kolkata Derby in ISL and it was enough for the reigning champions to see off his arch rival.

The Mariners started the match strongly as Maclaren gave them the early lead in the second minute. The EBFC backline was caught off guard when Asish Rai’s long ball found Maclaren in space. After receiving the ball, he lost his marker and slid it past an onrushing Prabhsukhan Gill without any problem.
