Arne Slot does not want Mohamed Salah to face Brentford at the star’s farewell at Anfield

Mohamed Salah will say goodbye to Liverpool on Sunday, but how remains unclear, as manager Arne Slot does not want to commit to the Egyptian star playing against Brentford in the Premier League season final at Anfield.

Salah, one of the club’s greatest ever goalscorers, forced the question with his public criticism of Liverpool’s playing style after the 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa last Friday. He called for a return to the «heavy metal attacks» that scared opponents.

The outburst – Salah’s second public split with Slot this season – adds extra drama as the team also tries to secure Champions League qualification.

Slot was asked on Friday whether Salah will definitely be involved against Brentford. “I never say anything about the team selection,” Slot responded. “It would be a surprise to you if I did this now, I think.”

In March, 33-year-old Salah announced he would leave at the end of the season after reaching an agreement with the club to end his contract a year early.

Salah’s production has dropped so much in his ninth year at Anfield that he was dropped for a number of matches at the end of last year. This led to the winger telling reporters that the club «threw me under the bus.»
