Hull City were promoted to the Premier League after Oli McBurnie’s injury-time goal secured a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough in the Championship Play-off final at Wembley on Saturday.
A match played in scorching heat drifted towards extra time when McBurnie poked home a loose ball after a fumble from Boro keeper Sol Brynn in the 95th minute.
Hull will return to the top flight for the first time since relegation in 2017 and reap the rewards of what is known as the richest competition in world football.
Middlesbrough entered the final despite losing 2–1 to Southampton in the semi-final. Southampton was subsequently thrown out after being found guilty of espionage.
