Poison Ivy – Fox AT Thru Hike – Day 62

The trail started today along a wildlife sanctuary. According to the owners of Mountain Home, it is managed by the Smithsonian and has endangered species. None were visible today.

Once past the wildlife sanctuary, I had a long, slow climb. The day went by with ups and downs and not much, honestly. I don’t need a view for every climb and I probably would have enjoyed it if the trail hadn’t been lined with poison ivy. Between the rocks and poison ivy, the trail required a lot of concentration.

Climb trees. Not very touchy, but I don’t want it in my face.

There is a store nearby when you cross 55. I just left town so I decided I would only stop if I was literally walking past it. The store was 200 yards from the road, so no extra calories for me.

I know a long time ago there was a lot of farming in the hills. I wonder if this wall was a property marker.

Maybe I could push. My body just wasn’t feeling it so I relaxed. Taking extra breaks had me arriving at Rod Hollow after 5 pm My food supply is a little, well, a lot, heavy on peanuts. But it is what it is, at least for the next four days.

  • Breakfast: pancakes

  • Snacks: Fig Bars x2, Oatmeal Squares x2, Rx Protein Bar, Nature Valley Bar

  • Days without a ramen bomb: 62
  • Today I give thanks for: Long pants
