The trip begins!
I’m on the way! I felt weird to take an uber from a city at the beginning of the path, but I am happy to be on their way!
The morning began in Waterton Canyon. I saw a lot of people, but there are no large sheep. I ran into a path of a path about 2.5 miles. He likes to track statistics on where CT hikers come from. I am his first inhabitant of New Hampshire. It let me know that another 6 started today, so I know there are others ahead. I always find comfort knowing that I am not just out there.
I am already stunned by the landscape and how different my norm is. Boya well for the coming days! Towards the end of the cannon, I met my first hikers, Nate and Emily in New York. It was nice to chat with them. However, we are in different timelines, so I am not sure to see them again. The initial ascent was a attention call. I was very short of breath. I hope that the acclimatization of elevation is rapid!
Great hail and great views
I obtained my first storm and hail. It was not great to be thrown with hail of marble size, but it was short. When the storm passed, it seemed to just snow. Moments later, the sun came out again and you don’t notice that something would have happened. The swings in the weather here are bananas. I finally arrived at the South Platte River. What a beautiful place to hang with friends, family and other hikers. I admit that it is bittersweet to see family members enjoy their time together. It reminds me of the fun that awaits me at home! After filling a great water transport, I left the river for another great climb.
Last minute news: The sun is hot!
I found a beautiful camp to spend the night around the 20 mile score. I couldn’t have arrived at better time. The last bit was quite exposed and the sun roasted me. At one point I was sailing in a good clip, the next I felt like a Chevy persecution on the holidays wandering through the desert after the car broke. The sun and altitude are a powerful combo here.
I camped with two teammates Lenore and John. They seem lovely! Hopefully our paths cross again.
Pink, spine and sprout
Rose: I’m on the way! Finally, taking my first steps here is the highlight of today.
Thorn: The elevation came a bit. I really noticed in my first climbs that was breathless faster than expected.
BUD: I have already met some great hikers here. I hope it is a trend!
