Desert Oasis – The Walk

Reach the oasis in the desert. That was the thought that kept repeating in my mind all day. My motivation to travel these hot kilometers.

This morning from the camp we were advancing slowly but surely. I’ve been trying to create a habit of walking without headphones in the morning, whether it’s just with my thoughts or chatting with friends. This morning was the last. I was walking with Jug and Straight Up, chatting to distract myself from the hot day ahead.

The best thing about today was the water fountains. Along the trail were multiple streams and springs brimming with water. Some were even deep enough to take a dip in. Having water available meant less water to carry, sometimes only 1 to 1.5 liters at a time, and water is heavy, so the less I had to carry, the better.

At some point along the way I passed 300 miles! It looks like these mile markers are starting to fly by. I had a little dance celebration when I crossed this milestone.

Desert Oasis – The Walk

Around 6:00 pm I arrived at the oasis. Deep Creek Hot Springs. My motivation for today. I was very happy to see my people gathered together to take a dip in the spring. FarOut reviews warn hikers that this place can get a little loud, but tonight it was mostly hikers. I dropped my backpack and headed straight to the water.

The geothermal spring was incredibly relaxing. It was so nice to soak my sore muscles. The oasis was even better than I had imagined. It was worth the long hot day.
