We managed to get an Uber from Asheville to the trailhead. By the time we put our backpacks back on, we really felt like we had bought too much food. Variety in your diet is good, but wow, we are carrying a lot of kilos.
Although the bear can is heavier, the weight distribution is much better now! Before, I would put my other bags of stuff around the food bag to try to secure it in place, but it often slides around anyway. My dad suggested carrying the can sideways in my backpack, which fits like a glove! That’s not going anywhere.
Aside from the weight of the pack, we also felt like we lost some momentum over the last few days of rest. We were starting to get our walking rhythm back before, but it seemed like we had to do it all over again. Until after the lunch break, after which we both felt like we were back in the swing of things.
Since today is a shorter day, we arrived at camp early enough to relax a bit. Which is very welcome. We are tired!
