Neighbors – Fox’s AT Thru Hike – Day 70

Today we woke up to rain. This wasn’t too surprising as we went to sleep while it was raining and rain was forecast all day. I seriously considered taking a shelter zero. Then one of the other hikers started smoking cheap cigars and playing loud music in the shelter.

A moment to let off steam. Hikers spend an inordinate amount of time complaining about people snoring. Snoring is something you have no real control over, assuming you know you snore. But then again, often the hikers themselves don’t seem to care about making the lodges completely inhospitable to those who don’t smoke, vape, etc. Okay, I’m done venting.

So I just went for a walk in the rain. Honestly it wasn’t bad. The rain was light and kept temperatures cool and mild. A few miles in there was a gentle climb and descent past PA 325. Otherwise the day was flat and Rocksylvania hasn’t arrived yet.

I skipped over and didn’t check this. If it’s not easy to read, it says there is a den of giant rattlesnakes.

Arriving early at Rausch Gap I began to eat, chat and consult maps. Stay-At-Swatara was only six miles away. They look good and I was thinking I still need that zero. So, I packed all my things and left again. At this point, the rain had stopped, allowing for a pleasant six-mile hike.

Iron? Bacteria? It didn’t look like red clay to me.
