Today started like just another day in Rocksylvania. However, that changed when I passed a sign. The sign simply said that the next section is maintained by the Keystone Trail Association. I didn’t realize the meaning then, but it soon became apparent.
Like the Potomac club, you can tell this is an active club that maintains the trail and builds trails. Suddenly there were a lot fewer large, loose stones in the middle of the road. Sharp, narrow, vertical stones had been raised and placed. What is even more surprising is that the road was painstakingly built through boulder fields.

Until today I accepted the rocks. After all, how could it be any different? Well, he Keystone Trail Association He showed me how and boy, was it different? It turns out that Rocksylvania doesn’t have to be repetitive stretches of feet murdering rocks. The road was still challenging. There are still riots. But it didn’t seem like a useless pain.
Sure, we can debate whether this type of access road construction is good. I think so, but maybe others will like Rocksylvania as it is. The walking survey indicates otherwise, but it is a small sample. The point is not to say that we should or should build a path through the rocks. But the fact is that we could do it.

And that fact, having proof that it doesn’t have to be that way, makes me dislike rocks even more.
