FIFA World Cup warm-up: Colombia cruises past Jordan as Jhon Arias scores twice

Jhon Arias scored twice as Colombia beat Jordan 2-0 in San Diego on Sunday, ending World Cup preparations with a comfortable victory.

The Palmeiras midfielder opened the scoring in the 41st minute after being played through by James Rodríguez. Arias initially lost control of the ball but quickly recovered and calmly slipped past Jordan goalkeeper Yazeed Abulaila.

He doubled Colombia’s lead ten minutes into the second half, heading home Santiago Arias’ excellent cross to seal the result.

Jordan struggled to create meaningful chances throughout the match and ended the match with 10 men after midfielder Amer Jamous was sent off in stoppage time for a second bookable offence.

The win was Colombia’s second in a row, following a 3-1 win over Costa Rica earlier this month, providing further encouragement ahead of the World Cup.

After missing out on qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, Colombia will start their Group K campaign against Uzbekistan in Mexico City on June 17.

Jordan opens its Group J tournament against Austria on June 16 at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium.
