Serie A: Atalanta says goodbye to Palladino, Sarri is tipped to take over

Atalanta has parted ways with coach Raffaele Palladino after a short spell in charge, the Serie A club announced on Tuesday.

The 42-year-old leaves after overseeing 39 matches, despite leading the Bergamo side to a seventh-place finish last season after a difficult start to the campaign.

Palladino was appointed in November to replace Ivan Juric and take over a team languishing in the bottom half of the table.

Although he kept results steady, Atalanta failed to match the level reached under former manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

Its Champions League run ended in the round of 16, where it suffered a heavy 10-2 defeat to Bayern Munich.

Italian media have reported that former Lazio, Juventus and Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is the leading candidate to replace Palladino. The 67-year-old recently terminated his contract with Lazio by mutual agreement.
