During the 2026 FIFA World Cup match between Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the referee awarded Bosnia’s throw-in to the former during the game.
In the second half, Bosnia won a throw-in, but when skipper Sead Kolasinac delayed the throw, referee Facundo Raul Tello awarded the ball to Canada.
Under new rules introduced for the World Cup, referees will start a five-second visual countdown with a raised hand if the restart of play is delayed. If the ball is not in play at the end of the countdown, a throw-in is awarded to the opponents.
This new rule change is one of many laws introduced by the IFAB ahead of the World Cup.
