Upon exiting Fingerboard Shelter, I almost immediately took a hard fall onto some rocks. This resulted in a deep bruise on my right hand where it landed on a sharp rock, along with some bruising on my left hand and calf. Now I can’t really use my right hand. Fortunately nothing is broken.
Most of today’s climbs were in the morning. Normally this works very well, but the fall left me breathless. According to the guide, there should be a view of the New York City skyline. I definitely missed it. In the end I resorted to ibuprofen and tylenol so the pain wouldn’t distract me as much.
Once I arrived at Bear Mountain State Park, the experience changed. The trails were wider and smoother, with fewer risks of tripping. There were multiple views with benches. I enjoyed a rest on a bench and then moved on because there should be hot food in the park until 5pm.

There was no hot food. All concessions were closed. I settled for an ice cream sandwich from a vending machine. To be fair, Mosey tells me the hostel started selling burgers about 30 minutes after I stopped by. I’m having bad luck timing city food. Oh ok. Onwards and upwards, literally.

After crossing a super long bridge, I only had to climb a bit to the campsite. FarOut says the Hemlock Springs campground only holds 3 or 4 tents. Maybe car tents, but we could have set up more than 6 individual tents if needed.
