Who is Folarin Balogun, striker who scored brace for USA vs Paraguay in 2026 FIFA World Cup


American forward Folarin Balogun scored twice in the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Paraguay at Sofi Stadium in California on Saturday.

The striker managed to turn Cristian Pulisic’s cutback from the left flank towards goal to double the US lead in the 31st minute of the Group D opener.

The striker doubled his tally seconds before half-time, firing a shot into the roof of the net after overpowering the centre-back.

The 24-year-old striker currently plays for AS Monaco in Ligue 1 and has scored 24 goals in 72 appearances for the principality side.

Balogun was born in Brooklyn, New York, but grew up in England and rose through the ranks at Premier League side Arsenal.

He played just two senior games for the Gunners and enjoyed loan spells at Middlesbrough and Reims before making a permanent move to Monaco.

The striker scored ten times in 28 games for the US men’s national team.
