Iranian defender Ramin Rezaeian scored his side’s equalizer against New Zealand in a 2026 FIFA World Cup match on Tuesday.
Rezaeian pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area and poked it into the goal to make it 1–1 in the 32nd minute of the match. He celebrated by pulling the front of his sweater over his face.
This is the ninth international goal for the 36-year-old right back, who represents Iranian side Esteghlal in club football. He also played for two other giants of Iranian football: Persepolis and Sepahan.
In the second half, Rezaeian set up Iran’s second goal with a pinpoint cross for Mohammad Mohebi to head the ball home.
Rezaeian previously featured in two World Cups and scored a goal against Wales in 2022.
